Bi-Regional News and Funds

Big Lottery

Between 2006 and 2009, the Big Lottery are making £50 million available to projects in England through Advice Plus. Advice Plus aims to ensure that more people who need advice have access to good advice services wherever they live in England. The focus of Advice Plus is projects that support people in accessing the services they may be entitled to, such as; housing, education and health services or welfare benefits. They will only make grants to voluntary and community sector organisations that have experience in giving advice, or supporting those that do. Through Advice Plus they want to see expert, consistent and sustainable advice services that are provided for a wider range of people. Advice Plus will fund projects that:

  • benefit the people who need advice and the organisations that provide it
  • raise awareness of, increase access to, or improve existing advice services

They will also consider funding new advice services or new ways to meet identified needs where no, or limited, services exist. You can apply for up to £500,000 in total for capital and revenue projects lasting up to five years. There will be three rounds of awards with closing dates in October 2006, October 2007 and October 2008. To find out more about Advice Plus and how to apply:

e-Learning Foundation

The next e-Learning Foundation grants round closes for applications on Thursday 28 September 2006 . This follows a major round of funding in the Spring of 2006, where 55 schools were offered over £600,000 in grants to support their home access/e-learning programmes. Sharing the common principles of equity of access, home access and sustainability of funding through parental involvement , these schools will all be claiming their funds down by mid July 2006. Any unclaimed funds will be added to unallocated funds from the Spring round to form a limited mid year grant programme. Successful schools must be planning to launch their programme and claim their grant in full by the deadline of 28 February 2007.

Because of the limited fund, eligibility to apply for this new round will be restricted to schools who have not previously received a grant from the Foundation . As before, eligibility also requires schools to be affiliated; either through a Donation Management Service agreement with the e-Learning Foundation or by being affiliated members of the e-Learning Foundation. Applications are particularly welcomed from primary schools.

‘Increasingly we are realising the value of citizens participating not just in choosing or designing services, but in helping to deliver them.
